1. The San Francisco 49ers are trading quarterback Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys.
In exchange for Lance, the 49ers will get a 2024 fourth-round pick.
The 49ers had previously traded three first-round picks to select Lance as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Trey Lance had been positioned as the team's No. 3 quarterback behind Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold.
49ers general manager John Lynch expressed that the decision was challenging but believed Dallas to be a great fit for Lance.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Lance wanted a chance to be a No. 2 quarterback elsewhere.
In two years with the 49ers, Lance played only eight games, largely due to injuries.
Lance had 797 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions during his tenure with the 49ers.
With the Cowboys, Lance is anticipated to be the third-string quarterback, behind Dak Prescott and others.
Trey Lance will receive $6.25 million over the next two seasons, with a potential fifth-year option available to the Cowboys.
