Tragedy strikes on Monday afternoon as a faculty member is reportedly shot dead at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Suspect identified: Tailei Qi, a grad student in applied physical sciences. Taken into custody; charges pending.

Tailei Qi has been a graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill since 2022. He previously studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he earned his master’s in Material Science; and Wuhan University in Hubei Province, China, where he earned his bachelor’s in physics, according to his LinkedIn page.
